this indian head penny was dug here in quincy i do a lot of metal detecting if you poll the pics up you can see it still has the green lime on it thats how you can tell its copper i dont clean any of my coins because it hurts the vaule of the coin if you win this you can do what you want with it but if it was me i wouldnt clean it!!

from 1864 to 1905 Indian head pennies were made from Bronze. 1859 to 1864 were copper-nickle. 1864 was the change over year and had both types.

ya i new they had copper in them because when you dig them up there green these new pennys you dig up they dont last ten years in the ground there all ate up!

I'm a metal detector user also. have been since the 70's. I recently found a 2010 penny and it already had the warts on it. These copper zinc pennies will disappear in a very short time. I'm watching and if I have the credits may bid. nice coin
