The listing, Wool off white yarn 7 skeins has ended.
5 skeins that have hand washable and mothproof on the label. The other two are baby wool.and washable. I bought these at an estate sale in a lovely old house. They are in good shape. I am guessing they are old.
Questions & Comments
Think it is a good thing that you mentioned that it has a smell. Just let people know in your next listings too. I also think that it will be worth it to list them. Yarn is a very hot item on here and I believe bids will still go high. I am not going to bid on this lot right now because I am out of the country but I am in for future listingsā¦.smelly or not :)
that is good to know. Most were tied in bags and all were in large garbage bags. I bought two (all they had). other people were ready to buy if i didn't. they don't have any damage or moth ball smell or animal odors. they only smell like that house (antiqued). I am going to use many of them for my tree in my own house. Hope this helps, just wanted to be completely fair.
hi, thank you for feedback. A lot of what I have is this thickness. I do have some really big spools of yarn a little less thick than this (blue colors). It would cost a lot to mail the large spools. I also have some weaving loom yarn/thread---never opened but it isn't new. what do you mean "just my $.02? I probably sound stupid but I'm not exactly sure what that means.
Please don't feel bad! The expression is "just my 2 cents" meaning just my small contribution to the discussion. "$.02" was my poor attempt at trying to be clever. I can't find the cent symbol on my keyboard! :)
Fanned and watching this awesome auction :) In my experiance wool, esp. old wool, has a musty odor when stored for a long time. It should dissipate once the wool has been taken from the bag. I would put it in sunlight and just let it rest in the air on a table. A lot of older houses develope that musty smell after they have been closed up. It's actually one of my 'favorite odors" lol! Good luck :)
Another great idea. they are all together in two garbage bags. we don't smoke or have indoor pets so I can really smell anything not normal to my home. I am going to take all yarn out of the bags today and put in sunlight.
smells can always be taken out by the buyer. I use Zep "Smoke Odor Eliminator". It works FABULOUSLY. It should. It takes the smoke smell out of houses that had fires. I used it on a dresser that I got at a thrift shop that had been in a smoker's house. It surely did eliminate it! I am allergic to smoke and that dresser is perfect now.
I did not know this either. I know the cotton yarn could be washed, although I don't know if that can be done without tangling. This is all wool yarn. I will put in the sunlight today. I am so thankful for all these suggestions. I am learning a lot more about yarn (and old smells). I will say I think the old smell has lessened since they have been in my laundry room for a week and a half.
Zed works for most items. I had one English cabinet that I couldn't get the nasty smell out of. We didn't notice until we brought it home. I cleaned it with Murphy's, used the coffee ground method, used baking soda and Zed. Never got the smell out. Placed it in our porch and still smelled. Wasn't cigarette smell, just sickening odor. An antique dealer came by and offered me 4 times what I paid and I said sold Because it is wool I it shouldn't be washed until the project is finished. Washing felts it. There is Dryell that can be used after the garment is finished. Having it in fresh sunlight is the safest for now.
