This is a challenge coin is from the USS John F. Kennedy, CV 67, Carrier Group Six, Carrier Airwing Seven. These coins are given to military members to remember their service or to remember a special "challenge" they faced. This coin is a memento given for their Combat Cruise in 2002 in Operation Enduring Freedom, the Afghanistan War.It is a beautiful, heavy gold colored coin with enameling on it. It measures a little over 1-1/2" across.It has high relief, and the enameling is in perfect condition. There is absolutely no wear to this piece.
What a wonderful thing to have earned! I have no idea why I got it in some jewelry I bought, but someone gave it up. I think it deserves a home where it is appreciated!
