The strap is very adjustable. I measured from the purse to midway when the strap is adjusted fully it measured 26" . Hope that helps you.

when you say you measured it midway and it was 26" does midway mean the measurement of going down one side while extended is midway or is there another 26" for the other side as well = 52"

I believe it is 52". I held the extended strap and measured half way to the highest point.
