No it does not have the leads so there for I'm not sure if it does work correctly or not.

What type of battery/batteries does it use? 9 VDC?

If you put a fresh battery in it you can do a partial test to see if it works. Take 2 pieces of copper wire and insert them into the lead holes + & - turn the dial to RX1 and touch the 2 wires together; the meter needle should peg to the right and read 0 ohms. A second test would be to put a battery between the two wires with + side to plus lead and - battery terminal to - Lead wire. A AA battery should read about 1.5 VDC with the dial on DCV 10 . You cannot test for AC without leads unless you want to risk electrocution as you don't want to be sticking bare copper wires in a 110Vac house plug! The first 2 test will at least give some indication to whether the meter works

I have updated with photos. I took the screws out and that's what the inside looks like. Hope that helps.

looks like it uses a AA battery at the top

Little difficult to get to it just to change the battery lol.

The battery is only to take resistance checks so it lasts awhile

I was a Coast Guard Electronics Technician and I used a Simpson 260 analog voltmeter similar to this one; there are certain tests that the newer digital voltmeters like Flukes cannot perform because they load the circuit where this type does not.
