On August 6, 1994 an exciting race started on a track formerly reserved for different types of races. That race would be dubbed the Brickyard 400 and it has become an annual pilgrimage for thousands and thousands of dedicated Nascar fans. That year marked a milestone in racing history. It was the first time that any non-Indy car race car had ever turned a competitive lap on the the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the most famous race track in the world. The Inaugural Brickyard 400 was the most publicized stock car race of the year. The race was sold out months in advance, and more than 250,000 fans packed the house. Millions more watched on TV, and the race they saw couldn't have been better if it was scripted. Jeff Gordon, the young kid who grew up in Indy near the race track, had a hard fought battle with veterans Ernie Irvan and Rusty Wallace, and brought the #24 across the brick-laden finish line first.
