The listing, UNUSUAL, voodoo lily - Amorphophallus konjac bulb has ended.
This auction is for 1 first year offset bulb of Amorphophallus konjac. It is currently just breaking dormancy and should be potted or planted asap. It is a few years from blooming size, but these guys grow very quickly if fertilized well and within a few years you should have a nicely sized plant that should flower as seen in the first picture.
This one is a BIG beauty with the flower reaching heights of up to 5 ft. It can be grown outdoors as a hardy perennial even in zones up to 6a, but is best suited to container growing in colder areas. The foliage resembles a small tree but is, in fact, one large leaf structure. These plants go dormant over the fall and winter and grow from early March through till September or October in my collection. Bulbs should be potted deeply in very rich soil and fed liberally during active growth with fertilizers made for bulb-plants like tulips and daffodils for best growth of the tuber. They prefer part-shade to full sun, but are rather forgiving. The bulbs are prone to rot, so ensure the soil is well drained and if kept potted, cease all watering until signs of growth reappear in the early spring to discourage rot.
A word of caution, while these plants do create stunningly beautiful foliage and flowers, when the flower blooms it does smell like rotting meat which is how they attract pollinators. They are an unusual beauty when in flower though.
The first picture is from a nursery as I do not have a picture of my plant in bloom. The second and third photos are the parent plants. The fourth and fifth photos are the actual bulb you will receive.
