Is it round with a ring on the other end to hook into it or is it long with a another long piece on the other end to slide into it

it has a piece that slides into another piece and then a little lock on the side

sounds like what they call a barrel clasp, those are usually pretty secure clasps

yea it's secure. it's a rope necklace, my sister in law gave it to me and it broke in the middle. but it's an easy fix.
