i would think it would say it on the package, maybe say something like lifetime maps or lifetime updates.

I did not see the type of info on package that you ask however I did find the following:
DeLorme Technical Support :: Updates For Earlier DeLorme ...

and it showed updates al least till 2009.How ever its my 2 cents that if you have an internet connection,the gps will use the most current maps.When offline is when you would be using the 2005 or any of the updated maps that you downloaded from the above link. Hope that answer helps you!
