Welcome! Thank you for your interest in this high relief, pewter U.S. Congressional Medal reproduction commemorating American Revolutionary War Major Henry Lee! Medal awarded to Major Henry ("Light Horse Harry") Lee for his daring pre-dawn assault at Paulus Hook in 1779. The original was engraved by Joseph Wright, the first engraver of the US Mint, and struck in gold. Obverse: The bust of Major Lee, facing right. Latin inscription reads: "The American Congress to Henry Lee, major of cavalry". Reverse: Inscription in a laurel wreath. Latin inscription reads: "Non withstanding rivers and ramparts, he conquered, with a handful of men, the enemy by skill and valor, and attached by his humanity those vanquished by his arms. In commemoration of the Battle of Paulus Hook, August 19, 1779". Reproduced in pewter for the U.S. Bicentennial! Medal is 38 mm in diameter and weighs 20.7 grams and in very good condition!
