The listing, PDS (3) 1943 Steel Pennies Rare** has ended.
The 1943 steel penny is a wartime issue made of steel, and coated with zinc. During World War II, copper was so badly needed for the war effort (to make shell casings) that the U.S. penny was made out of steel. Steel pennies are scarcely found in circulation but when they were being circulated it is said that many people mistook them for dimes. After the war the mints made an attempt to round up all the steel pennies which caused these coins to become even more rare. Steel pennies are an interesting piece of history and great for collectors of all ages. This would make a great first set for someone just getting interested in coin collecting. Happy bidding!
Up for grabs are three 1943 steel pennies, one from each mint. I have attached a picture of the coins that I will be shipping out. The copper penny will not be shipped out due to weight limits but it does show how they compare to their sister copper cents. This item has free shipping within the United States of America.
