So what is the latest date on these coins that are still 40% silver. I had thought they had stopped putting silver as of 1964. Was that only with quarters, dimes?

That is correct for dimes and quarters. The half dropped down from 90 to 40 percent from 1965 to 1970. After 1970, all silver was removed us circulated coinage. For more info Google "coinage act of 1965".
