Description

The listing, Yellow elder. Twenty seeds has ended.

Provide yellow elder with a minimum of six hours of sunlight each day. If trees and shrubs shade the plant, cut them back if possible. If it is grown in too much shade, a yellow elder will not bloom as well or grow as full and upright as it would in more sunlight.
2
Work a 1- to 2-inch layer of compost into the soil around your yellow elder if the soil does not drain well. Yellow elder does not like wet roots and requires well-drained soil to grow well.
3
Water the plant only during hot, dry weather, applying about 1 inch of water at the plant's base. Too much water can cause mildew, rot and other damage to yellow elder, which typically thrives with just rainwater.
4
Stop fertilizing your yellow elder if it does not thrive, especially if you use a fertilizer that is high in nitrogen, such as grass fertilizer. Yellow elder typically grows and flowers well without fertilizers. If your plant is not growing and flowering well despite proper care and growing conditions, fertilize it once in summer with an all-purpose fertilizer, such as 10-10-10, using the application rate listed on the fertilizer package's label.
5
Cut back the yellow elder, if it is grown as a shrub, to within 1 foot of the ground in winter or early spring if you want to control its size. Prune the yellow elder to shape it and to encourage new growth during the growing season, cutting stems back to a parent branch or leaf bud. Remove no more than one-third of the stems.
