could it be used on something like a safe? my lock broke on my safe and i thought maybe this would be what i need to know when my brother was trying to get into my stuff

Sure it can. It won't stop a safe from being opened, but it will let out a squeal the whole time that it is open.

I would like to add to Tonya's comment reply... it can also be shut off, so your brother could turn it off as well, unless you adhere it to the inside (which can be done with little trouble).
