1989 Topps had a few errors during the first printing. This Bob Welch, for example, does not contain the header above his stats which reads "Complete Major League Pitching Record". While many errors remained uncorrected in later pressings, this error was corrected early in the press run. This is considered as #605a; there are lots of the corrected version (considered as 605b) out there, but this error version is comparatively very rare and commands a premium, generally booking around $10 ... which is more than the Griffey rookie from 1989 Topps.

Welch won 211 games in his career, including 15 or more wins in 7 different seasons. A World Series champion with both the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Oakland A's, Bob is best remembered for his amazing 1990 campaign, when he earned an eye-popping 27 wins and, subsequently, the Cy Young Award as the best pitcher in the American League.
