If you don't know, IF you win an auction, you have to click on the PAY; it means you have the credits and has nothing to do with money. I had to ask as I had not heard about Listia's "new deal". Here is their response:
Hi,
Thank you for contacting Listia. You are not being asked to pay any money for this listing. We released a new way of bidding on the site recently, that allows users to bid above their available balance, if they choose to do so. When you win an item, you now have to go back to the listing to confirm that you would like to use your credits for the listing or if you would like to pay money for credits you do not currently have at that time.

Great auction. I see your comment and Listia is making things very confusing with their new system. Many of us who have been on the site don't like the system. I like seeing my total number of credits and the pending credits I have bid subtracted for me. Not all of us have tons of money to buy extra credits if we accidentally bid too many of our credits.

It seems I do a lot of complaining to Listia, and sometimes have to agree with them. My biggest problem right now is that credits are not worth anything.....and we have lost some really great listers because of it......listers who always gave free shipping. Which I rarely ever do. The people who were listing tons of flower bulbs, and even live plants, are GONE! That is basically what I have used my credits for all these years, and a few along for hardcover cookbooks, which I collect.....over 4,000 right now. (Many more and I will be living in the dog house....and I don't have one!!!!) I was always running low on credits....now I have over 6,000,000 and am struggling to find anything that I even want to bid on. I am on four other sites, but I spend most of my time on Listia because of the variety of items we can list. My other sites are books only, with a couple permitting tapes, CDs, etc.

You sure have collected the credits, but like you said they are worth less and with a decline of good listers there is less to buy with our credits.

I was not aware until about a year ago that many Listians have millions of credits. I wonder if Listia is aware of what they have done to us by selling credits so cheaply??? If it were not for some of my great bidders, I might leave Listia since I have credits and credits and rarely ever bid on anything, much less win.

Listia has to be aware of the inflation situation they have caused. It started not only with the extra bargain credits they were selling, but also the start of GIN. Folks have to price their stuff real high in order to pay Listia their credit fees for using GIN.

I had not thought about the GIN fees as I don't do many GINs. Also, I rarely list a starting bid of over 499 so I avoid that fee. The only way I am still with Listia is that I list almost all my auctions with a shipping charge. I list hundreds of book a month; without the postage, I could not afford to do so. I can't see paying big money to get rid of items that can be given to local charities!

I did GIN once, but it was not worth doing. I can see why you ask shipping for a lot of your books. We bring books to Half Price Books and get something for them. I do offer free shipping, but I list a small amount of things with 10 day auctions...so things are spaced out. This reduces costs.

There are so many different ideas among all us on Listia. For example, I cannot understand listers who list the same item, the same beginning bid, and do so for five, eight, etc times. To me, that lessens the chance of big credit bids. I listed wisteria seeds last week, I think three different auctions, but the opening bids or the quantity of seeds were different in each one. I do know that one of the big listers that we have lost was selling the credits, or buying certain cards with value and then listing them. But the cheap credit prices knocked him out of the game. Anyway, I am hanging in, waiting to see what Listia does. I wish more people would complain about the cheap credit prices and maybe get things going good again.

I know what you mean about having multiples of the same exact thing at the same time. That really doesn't help much with credits. We can only hang in there.

I probably should slow down, instead of trying to keep over 100 auction listings, and work harder on one of my other sites. I put the next two busiest ones "on vacation" so that I could handle Listia since I am limited (by doctors) on how much time I can be up on my feet. The reason I prefer Listia is that we can list such a variety of items; the other sites are books only. Anyway, I guess we should stick unless things get worse!!!!

You sure do keep up a lot of listings on Listia. What other sites do books? I use to sell books on ebay and tried a bit on Amazon. Sorry to hear the doctors limit how much time you are on your feet.

half.com, which is connected some way to eBay, but easier; I don't care to list on eBay.
BookMooch A busy site for me; on vacation now due to time needed for Listia
PBS (PaperbackSwap) Same as Mooch; on vacation
TitleTrader: I will probably drop this completely as I did another site; not as active and although I have books, books, books, with more coming in almost every week, I just cannot do a good listing job (and especially mailing job) on five sites.

I have learned in listing on the above, especially Half.com, to check to see how many copies of the book I want to list are already listed. Since you get to set your price and half.com sets postage (usually some above what USPS charges), you can actually make a little money, but most books are already listed and usually cheaper than I want to sell.

I found it hard to make any profits on books since the big book stores were competing against me. I did make a profit on vintage books of my husband's a number of years ago. You sure are active with book selling.

I need to remove some that have been listed too long, and some venues that just do not sell on Listia. Plenty of books to list, but it means dragging another box in here and picking out the best ones to list. Maybe with hot weather due, I will be more inclined to sit here in air conditioning and push my sites; not read so much.

I am a book lover too. I know what it is like to go through lots of books. We are just having some more 70 degree weather which feels really warm for us in Chicago.

Our days are warming up here in Arkansas, but nights still get rather cool. Storms predicted for Wednesday and rain the rest of the week. I am not a hot weather person, and I am afraid this may be a summer! Our winter was warm one day, freezing the next and continued like that most of the "winter". But our weeds are really growing; last week the lawn look as if we had cut hay! And no horses/cows!!!!!

Not crazy about hot weather either or extreme cold. We will be getting rain on Wednesday too.

We can get a little similar weather, but I don't think it will rain for the rest of the week.

Probably won't do anything here now that the three day estate sale was moved to next weekend.
