Chase, Nicole and Rashawn barely survived the first part of the category five hurricane. That’s more than some can say. But it’s not over yet. They managed to reach Nicole’s family farm where their circus show resides in the winter, but the house is demolished. Nicole’s grandmother, Momma Rossi, barely escaped, and now all four are taking refuge in one of the circus barns. They’re not alone, though. They share the barn with a very pregnant elephant named Pet. The nervous, first-time mother could give birth at any moment, though that’s the least of their worries.

The power is out, and the only thing keeping them from pitch darkness are a few weak flashlights and a generator running on gas fumes. They desperately need to find more gas for the generator for many reasons, but especially in case Pet goes into labor. The only place where they can find filled gas cans is in Chase’s family truck parked at the other end of the farm. That would mean braving the hurricane that is still raging with pounding rain and fierce winds. And now the flood waters are surging, adding to the dangers. And believe it or not, that still isn’t the biggest worry.

Some of the circus animals have escaped and are running loose on the farm. We’re not talking cute little performance dogs in pink tutus. These are dangerous, wild predators, frightened and trying to survive, like the aggressive leopard Hector and the lion Simba, who had recently attacked his trainer. But they desperately need to find some gas, so Chase and Nicole do the only thing they can. They arm themselves with a tranquilizer pistol and a 12-gauge shotgun, and then head back out into the storm.
