The listing, Rare Sanguine Ameliore Butterhead Lettuce has ended.
About 100 seeds. Sanguine Ameliore or Strawberry Cabbage Lettuce
The small butter-head Sanguine ameliore is a white-seeded heirloom lettuce. Imported to the USA in 1906 under the name “Strawberry Cabbage Lettuce.” The plants reach 7 to 9 inches in diameter.
Indoors, lightly seed in moist seed starting mix or direct seed in garden. Stunning container plant. Cover with 1/4” of soil. Keep moist, but not wet, until seeds sprout. Thin, eating the extra seedlings, finally spacing 10” apart.
Tender tongue-shaped leaves are mild flavored. Plants are very unusual, in that they are marked with small deep scarlet-red spots on emerald green leaves. The interior of the head is pink.
This French heirloom is rare, so if you love it, as the season heats up, let it bolt and bloom to collect your own seed.
Sprinkle in a few radish seed to mark rows. 60 days from seed to harvest.
