True story: while spot-pitching in college, I pitched a five hitter against Ferrum, striking out six and allowing only one earned run. We lost the game. On the mound for Ferrum College was Billy Wagner, who gave up only one hit and struck out 16, en route to setting the NCAA record for hits allowed per 9 innings (1.88 per nine ... still boggles my brain) and strikeouts per 9 (over 19Ks per 9 IP). But I can always say, "Yeah, I pitched against that guy." I can also say that I knew he was good going in, and that I brought my A game, and it just wasn't enough. We lost 3-0, behind a couple of errors.
