Description

The listing, Possible 1776 New Hampshire Penny has ended.

I will be 100% up front with everyone here. Most coin collectors know there is only three or four known legitimate examples of this coin. This is most likely an early copy before it was required for there to be the word (COPY) put on it. Now on the flip side I have read several articles about the coin in question. And although very unlikely I think there is a slim chance this may be a real one. Just by the weight of it in my hand and the color and detail. You have to judge for yourself. I finally discovered where your coin is from . It was made in New York City in early 1876 for the Centennial International Exhibition of 1876 . The first official World's Fair in the United States , was held in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania from May 10 to November 10, 1876 , to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia . Reportedly as many as 500,000 coins were either sold or given away during the C.I.E. and Worlds Fair .
This coin was made for this event and not a copy . A great piece of history . . / M .

I just like the way it looks . This one is better manufactured than cheap , pitted and grainy ( mass produced ) Chinese copies on the market now a days . . / M .

Thanks for that comment. I mean I already assumed this was a copy but if it is, it's a really nice copy.

To be honest I'm not sure the exact weight as I don't have a digital scale. But I would say it's somewhere in between a quarter and a nickel. Not sure if that helps but that the best I can do by hand feel.

Ok I understand I know if it ways around 5.15 grams there's a better chance that it could be one of the very few real ones it's a very nice coin but if it's not 100% real it's really worth nothing

okay I'm bidding & taking a gamble on this. the fact that if there is even a small chance that it is genuine, it might be worth the risk. to have anything from 1776 would be amazing. after all, 1776 is right at the foundation of a free America.

Exactly! I just don't know enough about old coins to really say one way or the other. Good luck

thanks. does it say the word "copy" anywhere on the coin?
May 5th, 2017 at 5:34:57 PM PDT by

It doesn't have the word COPY or REPLICA or anything anywhere. That's why I was even hesitant to list it. I've looked at it under 10x magnification and it looks real. But I've just had it sitting around for years. Even took it to a couple coin shops to get it looked at but they couldn't say for sure either. Was told to get it certified by pcgs but never got around to doing all the work to do so. So if this does happen to be real then it really would just be my loss and your gain.

ok well thank you so much for listing this. the only reason I haven't used gin is because we all have doubts about whether the coin is genuine. if we knew for certainty the coin was genuine and authentic, then I wouldn't even hesitate to use gin. you said you have had this for years-do you happen to have any more coins this old? or any old paper money or anything old of value that you hesitate to list? I ask because this is so interesting to me, if this turns out to be real, it would blow my mind.

Well Richard I'll be honest. I have 9 tobacco coupons I recently acquired at a swap meet. I've been researching them for weeks now with no luck at finding a value to them. I mainly collect tokens you see and I just had to have them. Other than that I have tons of old tokens but I rather hold onto those. I do also have a shipwreck coin in a hard plastic case that I'd be willing to part with.

really! I appreciate your honesty very much. what was it about those tobacco coupons that grabbed your attention? I never seen any tobacco coupons-how old are they? its funny I'm going to a swap meet first thing in the morning, and I'm taking with me to try to swap-I have tons of nhl, some nba/nfl t-shirts, hoodies, even several track jackets, which the track jackets are worth $75 retail-I got them all from a wholesale company , I tried to sell them in my area, and no one wanted them. I have over 100 pieces of clothing I cant even sell. also I'm gonna try to swap some semi-rare to rare lions club pins, some costume jewelry, and a full Ziploc bag of watches, mens & womens. not sure if they work, probably just need batteries, I got all that stuff at a giant garage sale. I'm very intriuged & interested in that shipwreck coin, I absolutely love that stuff. I love collecting anything that's old or that has a historical significance. let me know if your interested in anything that I have listed and id definitely consider a trade of some sort, if you would consider it.

Not really a sports fan myself lol, so I wouldn't really be interested in those items you got.but what really grabbed me about the tobacco coupons is that I could tell they were old and were in great shape. I believe they are from the 50's. And as far as the shipwreck coin goes, I'm pretty sure they are fairly common. I see them a lot on eBay. Just something cool about it. Plus it has the story of the wreck on the holder of the coin so that just adds to the awesome factor.

ok well if you decide to list that shipwreck coin, let me know. if you had a gin price in mind, I might be interested-assuming you want to list it.

also, if you decide to list those tobacco coupons, I'm definitely interested.

Let me think it over a bit. The shipwreck coin I'm not all that interested in but the tobacco coupons I think I might want to hold onto a bit longer. At least till I can find some info on them.
