This is a BU 1943-S Zinc Plated Steel Cent Produced during WWII because copper was needed for military use.

These cents were coated with zinc to prevent rusting, but the zinc didn't wear very well.

This coin is uncirculated, the zinc coating wears off very quickly after these coins are entered into general circulation.
