yes it needs ink cartridges, nothing else is needed just the driver and you can go on line to get that.

David, could you explain how to find a driver for the printer and about how much they would cost? I am very interested in your printer and knowing this would help a lot. And everyone else who is bidding that is tech geekless like me. Thanks.

to get the driver for the printer you go to http://www.hp.com and go to the driver and support page. from there you can put in the information for the printer and download it from there. From what i've experienced most drivers are free. so it's not cost to you.
