The "Sweetgum Tree" is the magical tree that not only produes star shaped leaves, but also produces the amulet "witches burr."

When at it's prime the "witches burrs" or "sweetgum balls" are filled with seeds and the prickly spines help to protect those seeds to keep them safe from being eaten. Therefore these magical little burr's are a strong symbol for fertility, prosperity and protection. when someone wins i'll go ask the sweet tree for them she's a wise old sweet tree

Fanned and watching. I didn't know they were called witches burrs, but they do make pretty Christmas ornaments. Glue a round toothpick in each hole, let the glue dry, then spray with paint or clear adhesive, and sprinkle with glitter. Use ribbon for hangers.

Sweet gum is also known as "American Storax" and the bark of the tree can be used as an incense base ;)
