It has a on/off switch to turn on/off the light, GLASS lens. It can magnify up to 45X. It's taking 3 small button batteries (Included).

Well I am using similar magnifier to check watermarks in old stamps. And it works. The only bad thing about it is that it hurts eyes if to use for longer time. I hope ghis will help you.
