FREE: 1944 Walking Liberty Half Dollar Au-50+++

It should be called MS-60 if you are not able to grade from 60-70 on the scale. For most coins this doesn't matter. What coin is it in particular?

lol well it depends what i am reading, but i don't study for classes so that's probably why it doesn't bother me. I just pay attention in class and take notes.

depends on how much free time you have on your hands. And money i guess. It has a lot to do with numbers of coins your able to see. I use proven graded coins i own to compared my raw coins with. Eventually you get good enough with certain types of coins you can grade them by eye. I find looking at coins relaxing so i often do it at night to go to sleep. Some people read to go to sleep. I grade coins lol both are equally boring, but at least i like grading coins.

I am currently running "low" on silver i am at around 45 ounces troy. down from 1-3k. I switches more to non precious metal coins. I do custom orders though if your interested.

i use that and "the gray sheet" But those are retails prices. I rarely pay wholesaler prices for coins, i get them cheaper lol. It's a lot of work though

yeah i recommend everyone wishing to learn about coins read most of my comments on auctions as often i post articles or discuss coins. By silver dollar do you mean a peace/morgan/ or silver eagle? In the case of silver eagle grades really don't matter because they are just bullion. for the other two a Ms-60 in certain dates can be worth thousands.

Ms-60 is the numerical grade for "uncirulated" The proof grade would be PR-60.
this is generally a catch all grade.
Then the coins are further graded based on Luster, detail in the strike,eye appeal, post mint damage.
at ms-69 lint marks yes if a piece of lint touches the coin it leaves lint marks and that can cost a coin ms-70. This is why you very rarely see an older ms-70 coin. the mint just didn't have the capabilities to produce perfect coins.

BU is part of an old and hopfully well past dieing system of granding coins where shifty sellers on ebay and bad coin shop owners would use word descriptions to grade coins.
In this order: Basal State (also Poor (PO)), then continuing Fair (Fr), About or Almost Good (AG), Good (G), Very Good (VG), Fine (F), Very Fine (VF), Extra Fine (EF or XF), Almost or About Uncirculated (AU), Uncirculated (Unc) and up to Brilliant Uncirculated (BU). Gem Uncirculated was roughly equivalent in usage to BU at that time.

but almost every time i saw coins like this they were wrong... It is opinion . now we use the numerical scale from 1- 70 1 being IMO crap to 70 being perfect.

AU stands for almost uncirculated it is represented on the numerical scale as 50. I graded this coin Au-50 + because i am not qualified to grade it between the 50-58 scale. Their is a lot of work and experience involved in grading coins into hard to fill spots such as au-55 which is a coin with little wear , but has luster. Where as au-58 has the same wear , but more luster. Au-50 has the same amount of wear , but very little luster. It's to frickin complicated and IMO shouldn't effect your purchase price unless the coins worth hundreds -thousands of dollars. Where as a single point can cost a lot of money. If i had to put a between grade on this i'd give it a Au-53 or 55. which is a difference of 3$ not a big deal 4 me. I would rather be honest and state it is at least Au-50.

patina is usually used for copper coins or ancient coins. since it takes a long time for coins to develop a nice patina. Unless they are buried or kept in a very harsh environment. In either case i wouldn't clean the coin if it was valuable. If the toning is damaging then it might be a good idea to remove it. It all depends.

no even the safest forms of cleaning removing tiny layers of metal from the coins surface removing some of it's original luster. While you will never notice them missing third party grading services will and they will not grade the coin. These are usually in the forms of dips. I suggest reading all the coin cleaning articles on www.cointalk.com for individual product reviews i personally do not clean silver coins unless it is bullion. that i use a few different methods that are harmful , but in the case of bullion the coins appearances don't matter.

yeah i knew this one would peak your interests for sure. =] We will see how things go , but i got at least 20 AU through ms-65 walking liberties i may post. tons of standing liberty quarters one in particular is a 1923 in xf-au condition. Tons of ms-60-67 Washington quarters. i got rid of most of my dimes , but i still got a few really nice ones i saved.
I got a new supplier now and he is giving me a nice steady supply of great coins. At even better prices =p
