Description
The listing, vintage antique pencil sharpener BRASS FROM GERMANY has ended.
Hi all, this is an old vintage antique pencil sharpener, not sure how old it is but I know I have had it for years. It has made in Germany deposit A.N.C. and cosmos stamped onto it. I think it is made from brass. Real nice looking item. Is about one inch long. And I will clean it up before sending it to the winner. thank you all for looking!! Blessing!
Questions & Comments
Yes, please don't clean it up! That is called the "patina" and helps to authenticate an older item. There's some rule about brass & how to tell it w magnets, but I can't remember it...? I love this thing; never seen one like it!
thank you! this is a cool item, and as i said to mrslalopez..will leave it as is. thank you both for the great info/help. i took a magnet to it..the bottom area with the screws/plate will stick, but the top brass looking areas will not stick. blessings to all!
FYI-if you "clean it up", it detracts from the look of antiquity. For some antique items, it also lessens the resale value. This is a very cool item! Watching/bidding!
totally cool! These were made between 1902-1915, and either marketed or perhaps just given out (as was often the case in many business "back in the day") as a means of advertising, by the American News Company. The item fitted for a larger pencil than what is the general size today. And is brass, of course :) American News Company was a magazine (and comic book) distribution company founded in 1864 by Sinclair Tousey which dominated the distribution market in the 1940s and 1950s. The company's abrupt 1957 demise caused a huge shakeup in the publishing industry, forcing many comic book publishers and small magazine publishers out of business. Sooooooo....for SEVERAL reasons, this is a nice antique/collectible!!! Best Regards!!!
You are Welcome!!! Some things I knew, and others took some searching! But this was just too cool to let it fly by without some good info for You! If I had more, I would be bidding more!
