Description

The listing, Solid 22kt Gold Babe Ruth Baseball Card (Original Factory Packaging) has ended.

This is a 1996 Gold Card. It is still in original factory sealed hard plastic. It will be shipped in the original factory envelope that I received it in along with the original letter that came with it describing the card and the offer for other cards available in the collection. In 1996, these cards cost $9.95 + 95c shipping per card. Since then, the value of gold has went through the roof. I collect coins, not cards. I hope this card will find a good home with someone who will appreciate the beauty of it. I'm sorry for the pictures. I scanned them so you could get a clear image of what it looks like, but the pictures came out dark. If I can find another way to get a better picture, I will do so. Please don't ask me to reduce the number of days on this auction. I am in the process of listing multiple auctions and I want everyone to have a chance to see and bid on each auction if they choose too. By the way, just in case it needs to be said, There is no bends, dents, dings, etc. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer.

The card isn't "solid" gold. I have some of these, they were issued by the Danbury Mint...they have 22k gold leaf on them. Trust me, for a card of this size, even 16 years ago, you'd have never bought it for $9.95 (or, if you continued with the program, subsequent cards eventually went up in price, to $14.99 if memory serves) if it were solid gold. Pick it up, too ... that would be well over a pound if it were actual gold.
They're nice cards regardless. They do well on this site, usually. Not so much in cards shops or card shows, but when trading virtual credits, it seems like people can't get enough of them.

The information that I have with the card says it is 22kt gold. As far as being leaf gold, that would make since because they are paper thin, the size and thickness of a typical baseball card. To my knowledge, leaf gold is the same a pure/solid gold. The letter that included with the card states that if I stay with the program, it would cost $9.95 per card plus the shipping for each card after. Also, you are right. It is from the Danbury Mint. Thanks for the comment

Haaaa, trust me, they tell you it's going to be $9.95, but then after a few months it did start going up lol. Somewhere after paying $12.99, and into $14.99. I was just over half the set ... I didn't want to see what it cost to complete it, lol. (I've been picking some up here, though, and I still had the old ones ... maybe I'll complete it someday.

I don't doubt that the price did go up. I'm only quoting what the paper said. I didn't want to mislead anyone on here. I got this Babe Ruth card but never got any others. I do have a Mark Mcquire card like this one, but it is in a retail package like what you would get from Walmart. I think it said on the front that it was 23kt. I thought about listing it on here, but I have to track it down first. I found it the other day when looking through some old boxes of collectibles. I put it in a safe place, but don't remember where that place is. If this auction goes well, I'll dig it out.

Is this a foil card? They go for about $5.00 on ebay...

I'm not sure. The letter that I received with it, that the winner will also receive, states nothing about foil, only that it is 22kt. It is the size and thickness of a standard baseball card, only gold.
