Questions & Comments
How long does it take to reach plant maturity & full bloom; and what, if any are the soil conditions, light/shade for it?It is beautiful! watching. Already fanned. sorry to bug you with all the ???'s.:o)
Not a problem, I asked the same questions. Plant Moonflower seeds in a sunny spot 3 inches apart and 1 inch deep. Cover seed with soil and keep moderately moist during germination . Germination takes 10-20 days. The flowers are about 5 1/2" wide and appear from midsummer to frost. Once they start growing, they are fast so you will want to plant in an area where they can be controlled. I've never really counted how long it takes for them to bloom, but once they start they are beautiful. Just make sure you plant after danger of frost. Maybe next year you can be listing the seeds as well. Hope this helps. :-)
Love this flower . But also need to warn you about the leaves to this plant. It will kill animals.I lost a horse last year cause he ate the leaves and vet told me this plant is on the list of plants that will kill animals if they eat the leaves to it.Just thought I pass this on to you.Not stating you have anything that will eat the leaves but just something for you to know.
I believe the poisonous plant you are referring to is an altogether different moonflower. The toxic genus/species is the datura inoxia. Do you happen to know the genus of the one pictured?
