we go every year, we love hawaii- the profile picture is from our most recent trip (this month)- taken from shorebird, overlooking diamondhead.

the lady we rent the waikiki condo from, lives in kailua. we went to that side a couple years ago on one of our driving days (we rent a car for two days on each trip), we like the windward mall (but ala moana is the best mall in oahu), saw kailua beach, but went to lanikai beach (beautiful). our trip to hawaii is my husband's "happy place", so always plan it, way in advance and he looks forward to it.

Ala Moana is definitely the best mall! Every time I visit Oahu it seems they've added & made it bigger & better. Lanikai is my favorite beach! That's the beach I grew up going to almost every weekend! That's awesome you guys can have such a great experience to look foreward to every year!

so, how did you end up in michigan? lots of people from hawaii move here to las vegas (due to affordability), and often joke that this city is the "9th island." it's funny, because people from hawaii want to come to vegas, and vice versa. the pace is much different on the islands, than on the mainland. it truly is paradise.

That's funny you say that because I do know quite a few people that I used to work with at the hotels in Hawaii that have moved to Vegas. Lol I just had my boss and a friend of mine go to visit Vegas this week. I've never been there. Sounds like a fun place though! You're right about the pace on the islands. Everyone is on "local time" and has that aloha spirit. It's so cool. I miss it so much.

we love the ala moana- we go at least 3x during our 8 day-stay every year. the 1st trip we spent our last day, we spent $300! so we don't do that anymore. we learned from that initial trip that we have to shop around for the best prices, all over the island. funny story about the ala moana, i was watching "dog, the bounty hunter" a few weeks before our trip this year, and learned that drug dealers hang out near longs, so we looked for "shady" types, and saw some. the things you learn on the show...it's my guilty pleasure, i know.
