I live in zone 8 and need to dig them before they freeze in the ground. They can also be used as an annual if you don't want to dig them or treat them as a tender perennial depending on your zone..# 4 picture is not a good one ** this flower is almost black**and I couldn't take a good pix. sorry...happy bidding and happy planting

whow!! someone else from the pacific northwest...your probably in zone 8 as well..I think your elevation is higher than I am here..It will get colder for you and you might have frost sooner than I do..The good thing about dahlias is, I have never had deer eat them.( we live a little ways out of town) dahlias grow in all zones, they can be treated as an annual or dug up after frost, before they freeze in the ground. We did have a goffer eat some tubers before his demise.Re: flower size..the pictures 1,2 &3 are about 6" and the 5th pix, the flower is about 3"..Plant them after all danger of fross..I plant mine around Mothers Day (early May)..Hope that answers your questions..
