basically ,they were used as hotpads.the old coal irons,the wrought iron kettles etc.this is a mini as the bigger ones are about 3 times larger.they were handmade and a lot of them have hearts,initials,names on them.most old ones were made by blacksmiths until the industrial revolution came along.some call them,trivets...
