It's like a tube (earring) and there is a small piece of metal that is placed in the tube of the earring. Looks as if it is an unbroken circle once it is in the ear. Very comfortable to wear-I hardly ever take mine out. :-)

The earring itself is hollow and a small wire fits inside the tube...very secure.
