Description

The listing, Pine Needles/Instructions/Sinew Thread has ended.

For all you crafters, take a chance and learn how to make a pine needle basket. I've been a basket maker for years and have taught it to many. I've won ribbons and sell my baskets in galleries. Have an etsy site with my baskets on there now.

Included are pine needles, some different colored sinew (easiest to work with) and instructions written by me. There is enough pine needles here to make a small basket. You soak the pine needles so they are pliable, put them in a plastic bag and put them in the refrigerator while using. I will include a couple of needles the size you should use.

I have many pictures of finished baskets on facebook under shatoma art. Also the rest of my native american artwork..

Any questions email me.

This will be shipped free to US only (because of length of needles only) and I will ship with confirmation tracking within 2-3 days of win,.

THese are 3 ounces - enough to make a small basket. These are dried green longleaf pine needles from Florida - the best kind to use.

My high Mountain pine needles are only about 4" long not always the easiest to work with.

Because a lot of my baskets are very large, it would take a lot of time to do a basket having to insert pine needles, that is why I like the longleaf pineneedle. These are about 18" long.

I checked out your estay site. Very beautiful baskets!! I have never dyed any pineneedles to work with, just used the natrual colors, and I used split yucca spines to bind the pine needles, wanting to use only natural elements. Challanging at times>^..^<

thank you. I bet I have made around 300 baskets or more. I have so many pictures, I've even made some that are figural, horses, frogs, turtles, crocodiles and more. Tried challenging myself as much. I have also used raffia and other materials, but in the last few years concentrated on the completely covered basket making different geometric patterns. I have 3 of my gourd baskets that are in a book to be published this Fall. I love doing them. Also have done very tiny ones about 1". So whatever it is, I've tried it. lol

I may do another one in the future. I have some dyed red pine needles which I could do along with some black sinew I'm thinking about. So watch, maybe in a week or so.

this is really interesting. I posted on FaceBook. I have dozens of pine trees around my house. The needles are long but I don't know what 'kind' of pine trees they are. My naivette is showing. I am very intriqued :-) I will look for you on FB and do a friend request. fanning and watching

I friended you back. Going to do some more work on shatomaart. I want to promote the book that is soon to be published about gourds and weaving on them, as I have a piece I wrote with one of my gourd baskets using pine needles. Thanks for your comments.
