Super easy to grow: plant seed and then, sit back, relax, and wait for summer to entice Corkscrews cascading clusters of creamy shades of white, lavender and yellow ocher spirals to appear. During the first season!
HEIGHT: South 15-20'. North 6-8'.
ZONES: 9-11 Perennial. Direct sow or start early indoors.
ALL OTHER ZONES: Pot plant with something to grow on and take inside or overwinter in the greenhouse. It will continue to grow by a warm bright window. This tropical plant will not suffer the cold. Mid-Spring: Place overwintered plant outdoors in cool shaded area to allow ants to pollinate.
BLOOMS: First season. Late summer-early fall. Ant pollination will produce long seed pods which should be removed while still green and before a chill sets in.
SUN: FULL SUN-PART SHADE. Corkscrew is fast growing and adores the sun.
WATER: Moderate (keep watered). Fertilizer every 2 weeks during growing season.
Easy to germinate, soak seed 12 hrs, make a tiny nick in the hard outer shell (must be done or will not get water to germinate).
*Wiki: Corkscrew vine, also known as the scented "Snail Vine," has been reclassified from the Vigna family to Cochliasanthus caracalla, as the only member of this genus.
