I am readying myself to divorce a man who has, for 23 years, emotionally battered me, and this after he physically beat me. No one knows what it is like unless they have been, there, and like JJNW, I, too, have a blog that I am hoping people will read. Emotional abuse is REAL, and those who survive it are better equipped to handle things like abuse if they take what has been done to them and turn it into something that will help with the healing process.

Though I know that I will not ever be completely over what has been done to me, I know that I am a stronger person from it all because I chose to not stay in a victim mindset. I used to teach Hula for shows and used to have an actual halau (studio), but these days I am using my 38 years of dancing, teaching and choreography to help other victims of emotional abuse get something back that they never really lost but instead chose to bury out of the fear that they might lose themselves altogether - I use hula to teach women to get their girlie-mojo back, and I am happy to say that it works like magic....

BTW...with your one article about our not realizing that what we go through is actually abuse, you have inspired today's blog posting. No one realizes that this is a huge problem...and no one realizes that when a person who has been abused begins to change from who they really are into something that is totally apart from that normalcy, at THAT point is when questions need to be asked of the abused. When it all started for me over 20 years ago abuse was only what you could see and not what years of emotional battering can end up doing. Make no mistake - I am REALLY screwed up from all of this. I am terribly mistrusting of people unless I have known them for a long time, at least 10 years, am ready to pounce on someone when I even THINK that verbal and emotional abuse are taking place....if there is one thing that I plan on doing once I have gotten myself all good is I would like to take the show on the road and publicly speak against ANY kind of abuse at ALL !!

But right now I think I will just keep on doing as I am and just work on me...

You know many times reaching out and helping others also soothes our own souls. Maybe you should try speaking out to others. Maybe start yourself out with your public speaking in high schools. Allow young girls to know the signs so maybe they won't end up like we did and learn the hard way. Sounds like you would be good at such a thing!
