The listing, Civil War Key From Hunter's Raid has ended.
In 1864, Union Gen. David Hunter invaded the town of Lexington VA where his troops burned down the home of the Virginia Governor and the Virginia Military Institute (VMI), vandalized Washington College, and under orders stole from town resident's food, animals, and weapons as the Union soldiers on their own looted the homes of the community taking anything of value they could find. Found at a Union campsite near Lexington was this 1 3/4 inch long key, probably to a desk or lock box looted by the soldiers. The winner of this auction will receive this piece of history along with a pamphlet on Hunter's Raid.
