Description

The listing, Catalpa Tree- 25 Seeds has ended.

Up for grabs is a bag with 25 Catalpa tree seeds. It will have sowing instructions on it. These seeds are from a friends tree. Picked and cleaned last year.

~*~*~I have been told that I am supposed to say in my description, that these are not retail packages of seeds. I own a greenhouse and purchase my seed in bulk packages. They come mostly in 1,000-10,000 seed packages from a commercial supplier. I can not use this amount of seed in all the differant varieties. So I repackage them in small plastic zippy bags and place a sticker on the outside of the bag with sowing and growing instructions. and list them here on Listia. Each packet has been hand counted and will contain ATLEAST the amount of seed won. 98% of the time there is more than that in the baggie. Several of the seeds I list are smaller than a dust particle and I can not count these. In these cases you will often find 3-5x the amount won. All seed auctions will now contain a photo of a seed baggies to show what it looks like. It will NOT be the actual packet you are bidding on. It is only a sample.

~*~*~Also, I package seeds very well, well enough that I often have to pay extra postage so they arrive safely to you. You won't get a crushed seed. If what you receive looks crushed, it is only because that is the size of the seed.

~*~*~ I ONLY ship to Listia verified addresses. I copy and paste what you have listed on Listia as an address. If it does not reach you...check your mailing info.

~*~*~If you have issues with ANY of this, DO NOT BID!!! I do this to earn credits to suppliment my income and purchase gifts. I do not have the extra money to spend on reshipping items, nor do I like giving credits back because someone does not or can not read the description and expects something differant that what is listed.

These are the rules, guidelines and other *^%&$&$%& that I am forced to have to explain because some people cant read or ask questions BEFORE BIDDING.

This is a very interesting tree. Are any parts of the tree edible? How tall x wide does it generally grow? I live in zone 7. Do you think it would do well in Oklahoma? It could have a home in a hot house if need be. :D

It will grow to tall for a hot house.

General: It is a perennial deciduous tree which readily grows in USDA Hardiness Zones 4 to 8. It has moderate to fast growth, tending to grow rapidly when juvenile, but slows with maturity.

The height at 20 years is about 20 feet. The biggest northern catalpa recorded is in Indiana. It is 81 feet tall with a spread of 84 feet and a circumference of 285 inches at Diameter Breast High (dbh) at 4.5 feet above ground level. Catalpas prefer moist, deep, well drained soil, but adapts to dry or wet soils. The soil pH may range from 5.5 to 7.0. It prefers an open sunny space to partial shade. When it grows from seed the tree trunk rarely divides into two or more branches about the same size. If the tree is cut and grows back there is prolific spouting from the stump. The bole may be straight, but it is usually crooked. It is tall with an irregular, open-rounded to narrow-oval crown. This tree comes into leaf very late in the spring and it is one of the first to lose its leaves in the fall. Its longevity is about 60 years.
