This is heavy fabric used to make large flags. It measures 50" by 59" and has been hemed on two sides - the stars can be cut off and used on various crafts. There are 50 stars measuring 4" across.

Is the fabric similar to taffeta?

No, its polyester, this is flag material, it is used in a factory that makes US flags. The stars can be cut off and used on projects or you could make something with the material as is.
