Description

The listing, PCI graded 1976 Lincoln cent sample slab has ended.

Here's a nice PCI slabbed coin for a young kid's coin collection. This is called a "Sample Slab" because it is handed out at coin shows by PCI, usually to budding young new coin collectors.

This sample slab was given out at the 2007 Blue Ridge coin convention in Dalton, GA.

Coin is a 1976 Lincoln cent, uncirculated, but graded as a sample, by PCI. PCI is a grading company that went out of business around 2008. The PCI slabs are somewhat difficult to find these days.

Note on the reverse of the coin are some black spots which have started to discolor the copper on the coin. This was caused by impurities sealed in the slab when it was made. The obverse is still clear, although it looks like some small spots are starting to become visible.

Photos are of the actual slabbed coin you will receive. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Silly question... I know what a slab refers to... but what does the term sample refer to?

sample refers to free versions of the slabbed coins that the grading companies give away at coin shows. there are many different ones available and are fun to try and collect.

Thanks for the education! I've seen the term but never knew what it referred to ... When these coin companies give them away, are they trying to sell grading services or just as a promotional like some companies give away pens and can coolers?

they are usually trying to sell their grading services, although for this one, it was also part of sponsoring a coin show. I have another auction listed with a PCGS sample slab that you can look at to compare.
