Description

The listing, STUNNING WATCH, SOLID GEMSTONE FACE AND BRACELET, WORKS FINE, BUT THE FRONT KEEPS FALLING OFF!!!!!! has ended.

This vintage watch is amazing, covered throughout in Leopard Skin Jasper and Tiger Jasper, goodness knows how many carats of it...
It works perfectly (only needs a new battery, pic 8) but the casing is a poor fit, and the front of it just keeps falling off -- which drives me nuts, so it's spent most of its life in the jewelry box! On one of those falls, the edge of the glass got nicked (see pic 6).
On pic 7 you can see the face without the glass cover.

It is marked "100% S.S." and "Hong Kong", and the make is 'United'.
It was bought by my mom in Hong Kong in the 80s. Watch repairers here look down their noses at anything that's not a major brand name, so my loss is your gain!

The mineral:
Jasper is a form of chalcedony, and comes in many colours and varieties. It's used for ornamentation or as a gemstone.
The colours and patterns are totally natural, and there's no chemical treatment or dying involved.
Jasper is one of the oldest known gemstones. It is mentioned in the Bible several times, and it's in the Jewish High Priest's breastplate, described in Exodus 28.

Healing properties:
All jaspers are strong stability enhancing stones, very protective against negative energies, generating physical and emotional renewal and self-healing.
Leopard skin jasper is associated with shaman travel and spiritual discovery.
Tiger jasper promotes self-assurance, improves stamina and helps you find refuge when danger is close.
Both are grounding, balancing, earthy, and promote optimism, psychic ability and intuition, and have been used to attract and maintain wealth.

Jasper is one of the birthstones for March.

In picture #8, what does it say on the back of the watchband?
Is there any damage to the jasper itself?
Is it real stone?
What am I looking at, as far as damage to the outer rim? I'm confused...
Very interesting watch.

The back of the watchband is marked "100% S.S." and "Hong Kong".
The jasper is 100% natural stone. I didn't think there was any flaw on it, but I just double checked it, and there is one *tiny* nick, which can be felt with the fingertip but barely seen. The damage is to the casing top, the bit that keeps falling off. I've had it for some 25 years, but only wore it twice because of that.
I'll post up a couple more pictures showing the flaws.

@ darylanncampbell I hope the new photos make things clearer. You see, the watch I'm wearing now has a metal frame around the glass, but that one doesn't, the glass forms the frame, and the numbers and golden foil are on the back of the faceted edges -- that's where the glass is chipped, between X and XI.
The slight roughness I noticed on the jasper is not due to a flaw on the stone, which is perfect, but to the fact that one of the pieces is about 1/3 mm narrower than it should be, and you can feel (and at top macro zoom, see) the edge of the setting plus a little dollop of jeweler's cement.

Can you measure the band to see what size it is, without stretching? TY! ;)

Without stretching, the band is 6-1/2" and the watch is 1" across, so it's a perfect fit for a 7-1/2" wrist.
