This is a 2002 Mercury Records CD release - a career-spanning collection with nearly all of Elton's hit singles from four decades released on the MCA, Rocket, Geffen and Island labels. (Pretty sure that was all of them.) It's brand new in the original packaging as pictured, never opened or played.

Believe it or not, it's one of my two or three favorite songs of all time. I bought the record (remember them 45's a.k.a. singles) when I was just nine years old, and it was just the coolest song even when disco took over just about all of the radio stations in our little town. I loved both sides of that record: "The ***** is Back" and "Cold Highway". Now many years later, I've grown to appreciate it more for the fact that it had the sensational Dusty Springfield on backing vocals and the Tower of Power horns - plus, it just ROCKS!! Probably Elton's best-rocking song although many would grant that honor to "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting".

Yeah, Listia would rather us not use words like "*****" and there were radio stations that wouldn't play it back in the day because it was vulgar. Oh my how times have changed. Even with a few dozen prudish stations refusing to play "The ***** is Back", it reached #4 here in the U.S. and went all the way to the top of the Canadian music chart (#1).

Pretty sure it was a bonus track on one of the releases of Elton's "Caribou" on CD.
