Description

The listing, Antique Brass Opera Glasses By Iris Made In Paris Victorian Theatre Steam punk ? has ended.

These are a stunning little pair of antique theatre glasses. I was told they are likely from the Victorian period. From what I can find I would say it is turn of the century somewhere but I haven't found the exact model to compare. There are leather grips that are still very much intact. The brass eyepiece part telescopes approximately an inch. The iris Paris stamp shows the maker and that it was made in Paris. The eyepieces are also stamped but it appears to have been a gift or owners mark "P.W.L & co". Please see all pictures to really appreciate it. They work great with a surprisingly clear picture. I can see some dirty spots inside and it looks like the lenses will unscrew for cleaning but I don't want to mess with it. Good luck everyone please ask lots of questions.

They are so beautiful to us because we never see this much quality and pride in the things we buy today...I cant get them both but I thought I would light a fire for you! =)

i look forward to other listings,as it stands top bidder seems to know something i couldn't find, facts seem to point to date frame of 1890(when these were first made)-(very earily)1920's(being the last date these were made)thankx for the pics ashame the one stamp couldn't be made out clearly enough to even guess what it might be..the "X" SEEMS TO be more like spears at least on one of them.

Iris, Lemaire and Colmont were the three great opera glass makers in Paris at the end of the 19century.

picture #8 shows the best info, hard to see all the symbols(these markings will give you date.
REALLY OUT DID YOURSELF with the pics,if everyone was to post up like this it would make things so much easier.
Think maybe you could get a closer shot of pic #8(not the letters)
