Here is the answer to "debrahedke"s comment :

"Weighted sterling or weighted silver" usually refers to items such as sterling knife and serving piece handles, candlesticks, and often pedestal candy dishes, salt and pepper shakers, and trophies that instead of being solid silver, are in fact a cored composite of other materials. Usually wax, or plaster, copper or sometimes lead is used in the base to give the item strength, stability and heft. Encapsulating items with a “silver skin” on the visible exterior greatly reduces cost. Manufacturers of such composite items are required by law to label them as “Weighted Sterling Silver” to ensure unwary consumers are not misled into believing these hefty item are solid sterling silver."

Hope that helps !!!

Thank you bubbayesmar for the info. Although i already knew that, it is exactly why I was asking her as she hadn't stated that it said that. Just wanted to make sure. This is a lovely item and worth enjoying instead of scrapping. Thank you Shaunetta!

Well, here I go doing what I told myself I wouldn't do, but what the hey, we need to nip ignorance in the bud when we encounter it right !!!
Shaunetta you have a great auction and a beautiful piece of vintage silver here !!!
You can tell by the pictures, the way that this is designed, there is almost no place for fillers, (plaster or otherwise) so if it is not solid silver (and yes, the stamp "sterling" means the same thing as ".925") then it has a negligible amount of filler !!!
Get a life people and leave the criticism to the "Antiques Road Show" eh !!!

Thankyou for that coment, And i dont care when people leave bad coments nor do i block them becuase i look at it this way , this is a free auction site and i cant imagin anyone trying to get rich off of the findings from here, its just a fun and simple way to pass the time . But if this was a cash auction i would know all the facts before listing something. So for now i just list things that cross my path for some reason or another that i realy dont need. But i am glad you could shine a little light on my ignorance. And who ever wins this can either tear it apart or melt it down or just simply leave it for its beauty. Have a wonderful day!!!!

This item is to be cherished as is. My Mother had one just like it years ago. She kept it next to her horse clock on the mantel . I was just a child but I remembered it as soon as I saw it listed. The best I remember there .is something inside to make it a little heavier so it won't tilt over..

Thank you for sharing your sweet memory with me and the other listians. I dont know that much about the lighter, so i can only tell viewers what i see or know, but i never block coments no matter how bad becuase i believe everyone has an opinion and im not ashamed of what i dont know about an item, this is a free auction site. Now if i were listing this on ebay or something i would make sure i knew all the facts or i wouldnt sell it. But this is a fun site and i think some people forget that. But god bless you for your kindness! :-)
