the roots will have a damp paper towel and then covered with plastic also its a succunlent so they can go quit awhile without water. this plant also prefers high light I have it indoors in a windows which receives sun and I use a cactus soil
and they don't light a lot of water I leave mine dry before watering again
but you can also look on the internet how to care for them
