Intent on seeing the Cahulawassee River before it's turned into one huge lake, outdoor fanatic Lewis Medlock takes his friends on a river-rafting trip they'll never forget into the dangerous American backcountry. Canoeing down the river, the four city men run into some unfriendly locals. Unable to escape from the gorge, in which the river runs, the locals become more and more of a threat.
