Description

The listing, Wow! Rare 1st Edition/1st Print UK British Edition of Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix has ended.

I am giving away a used hardcover British copy of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix! It is a first edition/first print, as the copyright page says "First Edition." (see pics 9 & 10)

The dust cover is in like-new condition with no issues (see pics 11-13). The book's edge's are tanned and a little bit discolored (see pic 5). The book has no writing in it, although there is a pinkish circle stain on the cover page and the same stain bled through to the copyright page which is on the back (see pics 6-8). The stain is about 2" long and about 3/4" high. There is no writing in the book (that I can see), the book has no missing pages, and the binding is tight (no pages are loose or going to fall out). The book, itself, doesn't have any dings or scrapes, although there is a tiny dark smudge on the top of the front book cover (see pic 2). Also, two pages have smudges on them. The smudges are very light. Pic 14 is of one of the pages, and pics 15 & 16 were taken from the other page.

Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix is the fifth book of the Harry Potter series, and it was first published in England by Bloomsbury books in 2003. Please note that this is the original British version of the book and it is published by Bloomsbury; it's not the Scholastic version.

I ran out of room, LOL. First edition/first print hardback Bloomsbury published Harry Potter books (and 1st ed./1st print hardback books in general) tend to be hard to find and are the most collectible. Also, I know that this is a true first edition, first print book because of the "First Edition" print on the copyright page. Not all first edition/first print books are printed with "First Edition", but when they do have this printed (without a number line and with only one single publishing date), it means that the book is both a first edition and a first print. This website kind of describes how to the number system works: http://www.emptymirrorbooks.com/collecting/firstedition.html I try to describe all of my items to the best of my ability, so if you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Thanks for checking out my auction :)

Oh, and if you are wondering why I listed the books separately, I didn't want someone to be discouraged from bidding on both of the books if that person didn't want the other book for some reason. Some people have made comments (not mean comments, just comments) to me about it in the past and I took their suggestion to heart.

Check page 7, about halfway down look for the word "boy", some books were misprinted as "bo" instead. If you find that to be true, post and expect more credits for this. You could also leave it as a surprise for the high bidder, either way.

Actually, I checked the page when I was listing this book, and I thought for sure that it would have the misprint (only true first editions, first prints have the misprint). But, I couldn't find the misprint in this book. I figured that either I'm looking in the wrong place, or for some reason, this book just doesn't have it. Maybe not all first editions/first prints had the error? I can post a picture of the page that I looked at if you would like me to. BTW, thanks for the tip!

From what I read it only happened with a certain number of the very first ones and not all of them. The first print run of this book was large, but not as large as later ones. I am not an expert on these books by any means but that is just the info I have found.

Oh, OK. That makes sense because this is a true first edition/first print book, but I couldn't find the print error that you mentioned. I think that it's supposed to be on the first page (which is page 7) of the book. I will post a pics of pages 7 & 8.

Thanks! :) I have another one listed too. I listed them separately because I didn't want to list them together and then have someone want one book and not the other, and then that person would be discouraged from bidding all together. I figured that this way, the winner will be 100% happy with the items.

I do, but I'm not sure if I will list them, sell them, or just keep them. My brother really wants one for Christmas, so I will definitely be giving him one. I'm not really sure what I'm going to do with the other one. Honestly, I will probably just hold unto it because it will worth quite a bit of money someday, I'm sure. Actually, it's worth some $ now, but it will be going up in value as the years go by (for example, my friend and I can't find a first edition/first print Prisoner of Azkaban hardback UK edition anywhere....they are so rare that it's ridiculous. I can find first edition copies, but they are usually not first print). *Correction: I just checked E-bay again for them, and they are three listed for over $110 each. Sheesh

My boyfriend thinks that those covers are better too. He thinks that the artwork is better.
