Synopsis
This is a poignant tale of the unshakeable bonds of women's friendship and the possibilities of starting over, by a New York Times bestselling author. In 1976, Emma, Maggie, and Stevie were the "beach girls," close friends who spent every summer at water's edge in Hubbards Point, CT. Now it's 2003, and Emma, who married Maggie's older brother Jack, has died in a car accident, leaving behind a nine-year-old daughter, Nell. Hardly knowing why, Jack has taken Nell to Hubbards Point for the summer. Desperate for some connection to her mother, Nell begins spending time with Stevie, now a children's book author living in retreat from her many bad relationships. Nell attempts to match Stevie with her father, the emotionally frozen Jack, but will the two of them ever manage to get past their troubled pasts and dark secrets to find love? BEACH GIRLS was adapted into a 2005 mini-series for the Lifetime cable network, starring Rob Lowe as Jack and Julia Ormond as Stevie.
