This is a difficult-to-find antique beautifully illustrated children's book about Eskimo life It is a first 1st edition with the "A" mark on the copyright page. It is entitled "On Arctic Ice" by Frederick Machetanz, published by Charles Scribner's Sons in 1940, with 105 pages and numerous wonderful illustrations by the author including 2-page bright color artwork at the center of the book.

It is still very tight, mostly clean and readable throughout the text pages without apparent marking by children or major tears, some light intermittent spots of foxing typical for age, and the only other damage seems to be a couple tiny edge chips/tears, a few soft corner creases, and the book has a bookplate showing it was owned and rebound by the historic Oberlin college with an excerpt from the original cover flap text pasted inside the front and library markings inside the hardcovers that do not detract from the text pages.

Overall, a great old vintage juvenile collectible first edition book with an enjoyable and interesting adventure story that seems like would be suitable for about children ages 6 to 12 years old, but not sure. Very solid, clean, readable, and unique.
