do the speakers take batteries of any kind or do they plug into the wall for power? or are they just a set of the small mini speakers? can you put a pic of them next to a ruler to show how tall they are etc...?

No batteries or plug in required, Just plug them into the headphone outlet on your pc, ipod or mp3 players. The speakers are about 5" tall and 3" wide they're a nice set and work good too.
