Questions & Comments
Can these be treated as perennials in the south? I am in coastal TX.
Hi, mkobobel. Coastal TX is zone 9, which falls to frost temperatures in Dec-Jan, and that would kill the African daisy for sure. If its seeds are allowed to fall onto the soil, they may come back after January, but I wouldn't count on it if temps go to frost levels. Best as an annual or potted plant.
Of course, you could always plant a few outdoors and see what happens. Here in zone 7, plants that are supposedly not hardy as a perennial here often surprise us and stick around year after year. My neighbor has had the same Gerbera daisy plants in her flowerbed for three years. They always come back.
